Monthly Mystic newsletter includes Chinese Medicine, herbalism, astrology, and other medicine wisdom insights. FREE course released.
🪐 Hey Mystics,
It’s Cancer Season AND the Capricorn Full Moon. As two determined and ambitious signs, a transit into these energies can cause forceful shifts to happen — asking for us to notice:
Are you feeling a call to stand up for what lights you up?
Is that leading you to set new boundaries, or soften into more authenticity?
This Full Moon, we’ll dive into what Chinese Medicine and physiology teaches about the body and how the Pericardium organ symbolizes the ability to express our authentic selves, protect our heart matters, and allows for deeper relationship and connection to all aspects of life. Let’s dive in.
❤️🔥 The Symbolism of the Pericardium
The Pericardium acts as a barrier between the Heart from other organs in the chest, such as the Lungs
From a western biological lens, it is a body structure that surrounds the heart for protection
From a Chinese Medicine lens, it is a structure with holistic intelligence that includes the physical function, as well as the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects
🔥 Pericardium from Traditional Chinese Medicine Lens
Known as the Xīn Bāo, it directly translates to “heart sac”
Called the Heart Protector and Sex Official; mental-emotionally it acts as a “gate” or a boundary that opens and closes to relationships, sexuality, emotions, and life experiences; when out of balance, it is easily influenced by emotions and thoughts of others, or distant and closed off
On a spiritual level, the Pericardium is connected to the Fire element and the ability to connect with others on a deep level; when out of balance, it is hard for us to connect and allow in people and new experiences
🧘♀️ Living By Your Physiology
Pericardium is a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual boundary — it is for protection from pathogens and supportive for emotional regulation, sexual expression, and spiritual protection
One somatic practice that I recommend to balance the Pericardium function (adapted from the Tao of Trauma). Using a simple Yes or No question and giving space to state your truth, or express your ‘No’ can help exercise your ability to create boundaries. This is a great practice to try with a friend, or a partner.
I invite you to self-reflect on the Pericardium. Here are a few journal prompts:
How is its symbolism important for you?
What systems or structures need to be implemented?
What boundaries need to be set? What boundaries feel too rigid and need softening?
